If you find one of the things shown below or any other unknown object, do not approach it at all or touch it and report it to be dealt with by specialists.
Anti-personnel landmines
Very Dangerous used for individuals
Learn more
This type of landmine is perhaps the most dangerous and is the main problem. Global agreements that criminalize the use of anti-personnel mines have been signed, but they remain a problem until now. The antipersonnel mine explodes if it is pressed by a certain weight (the weight of an adult). However, over time, rust, moisture and erosion cause the mine to explode at any weight. There are also types of mines connected by wires and once a person stumbles by them, they explode, and there may be several explosive charges linked to each other as soon as one of them explodes, causing all of them to explode. The location of the minefields is changing over the time, the floods in the desert and the movement of vegetative growth in the region, so it is very difficult to determine the exact beginning and end of the mine sites. International treaties banning the manufacture of anti-personnel mines have been issued, but the problem remains in most parts of the world.
Anti-tank landmines
Very strong and Dangerous used for tanks and armored cars
Learn more
They are usually designed for tanks and vehicles. Anti-tank mines are typically larger than anti-personnel mines and require more pressure to detonate. The high trigger pressure, normally requiring 100 kilograms (220 lb) prevents them from being set off by infantry, so soldiers and individuals can pass safely without exploding them, but in Yemen anti-tank mines were converted into anti-individual mines by connecting them with individual pedals, making them explode by the least pressure, which is considered a war crime.
Claymore landmines
Dangerous and work from distance
Learn more
Unlike a conventional land mine, the Claymore is command-detonated and directional, meaning it is fired by remote-control and shoots a pattern of metal balls into the kill zone like a shotgun. The Claymore can also be victim-activated by booby-trapping it with a tripwire firing system for use in area denial operations. The Claymore fires steel balls, out to about 100 m (110 yd) within a 60° arc in front of the device. It is used primarily in ambushes and as an anti-infiltration device against enemy infantry. It is also used against unarmored vehicles.
Locally made landmines
Very strong and Dangerous used for tanks and armored cars
Learn more
This kind of landmines, explosives and marine mines were locally made, this kind of mines can be found in Yemen, Syria, Iraq and Lebanon and they are made by Iranian experiences. Mortar shells, artillery shells and old missiles were turned into mines also. Some explosives were made from plastic sewer pipes, oxygen and gas cylinders. This kind of mines and explosives are detonated by remote control or individual pedals.
Landmines in form of Stones
Very dangerous because it is camouflaged and is placed in unexpected places and may explode as soon as you approach it
Learn more
Landmines disguised as stones are detonated remotely, they can also be victim-activated by a photoelectric light control photocell like that used in electronic doors which open automatically when the person approaches them and closes automatically after entering. This type of landmine has been placed on the streets, on the sides of roads, sidewalks and public places such as parks and gardens, so be careful of stones that seem "out of place".
Local Landmines Detonators
Used as detonator to turn anti-tank landmines into anti-personnel
Learn more
This technique came from Iran and learned to militias in Lebanon and Yemen and perhaps in Syria and Iraq. Unlike anti-tank detonators, the pedal detonator connected to anti-tank landmines fires the landmine by the least pressure killing everyone in the explosion area!
.If you find this kind of pedals, be sure that it is connected to a landmine, so be careful and do not touch it and ask for help. If you are forced to deal with it, never press on it vertically when you hold it, try to find the wires first and cut them one by one (watch the video in videos section). Using anti-tank landmines as anti-personnel landmines must be condemned and considered as a war crime.
Marine Mines
Used to destroy the ships and the boats. They harm the local fishers the most.
Learn more
A naval mine is a self-contained explosive device placed in water to damage or destroy surface ships or submarines. Unlike depth charges, mines are deposited and left to wait until they are triggered by the approach of, or contact with, any vessel. Naval mines can be used offensively, to hamper enemy shipping movements or lock vessels into a harbor; or defensively, to protect friendly vessels and create "safe" zones.
Mines Concealed in Toys
Dangerous as they are designed to kill children and their families
Learn more
Dangerous as it was designed to kill children and their families. This kind of hidden mines was found in some Yemeni villages (Watch on Video section), although this kind of hidden mines is not used widely as the other landmines, some killing cases were registered among chlidren who hold or played with those toys. Warn your children to not touch or hold any toys looked to be thrown or left "out-of-place". (Watch a video for a victim).
Warn your children not to touch or hold any toys or attractive objects that appear to have been intentionally thrown or left suspiciously.
