App and Website Idea

Idea Beginning

We wanted first to make an app that allows the mobile device to be used as a landmine detector, so that people can use it to detect any danger of landmines that may have been planted in there areas during wars and armed conflicts. Unfortunately after several attempts, we found that the functionality of electromagnetic sensors of most mobiles devices are so limited and they are too weak to detect a buried landmine, as those sensors were designed to be used as a compass for the apps that need the directions.

Idea evolution into an Android app

In other attempt of our aim to save lives, we decided to make an app that raises the awareness of people about the danger of landmines by giving them information, photos, videos and the best practices to act with landmines to help them avoid their danger, as civilian people and children would not be able to protect themselves of the landmines danger if they don\'t know how landmines look like or how to deal with strange things like UXO, Raising the awareness may be an effective tool to protect people from landmines danger!

We tried to collect a lot of information from many resources, simplify and expose them in an easy, brief, and effective way that can be understood to everyone, we added illustrations for the best practices, we designed awareness game that can help people correct some of the wrong information that they may have about landmines and UXO.

We are trying to use some of the most powerful tools of smart phones, like google maps, to provide maps for the infected areas, GPS service can be used to detect the users location and send them warnings or notifications when they get close to areas that may not be safe or contain minefields.

Reporting landmines or UXO in an easy way, with a click of a button, is a key feature in the app, it helps in reporting any new mined areas which allowing us to warn people, it also helps the relevant authorities to determine the location of those mined areas to clear them, that may help to protect lives and speeds up the process of clearing the land from landmines and remnants of war.

The app provides an interactive platform through its pages on Facebook , Twitter , Facebook Group , WhatsApp Group where a lot of information is published such as: awareness information, warnings about danger areas, new types of used mines and improvised explosive devices, opinion polls to measure awareness, statistics, international reports, and a library of photos and videos for documentation. The interactive platform helps people communicate and exchange information about their areas, inquire and request information, or discuss any issues related to the danger of mines and remnants of war.

From Arab world to the entire world

As landmines problem exists in many countries around the world, we decided to make the app support English, Arabic and French and more languages will be supported in the coming versions, so that many people around the world can benefit from these information to avoid the danger of landmines.

Landmine Alert as a Website

We recently launched the web version of Landmine Alert App in order to reach more people and spread awareness more widely, as websites have a greater opportunity to spread through their appearance in search engines. The website provides the ability to search within the site, which facilitates finding any information related to the dangers of mines and remnants of war, and the awareness materials are displayed more clearly on the Internet browsers of computers, which helps the awareness workers to take advantage of the site in awareness campaigns (display awareness materials on projectors in schools or printings..)

The web version of the application is the perfect solution for users who find it difficult to install the application such as not having enough storage space in their phones or they cannot download the application from the Play Store because they do not have an email address, as well as those who live in conflict areas and are afraid to keep the application on their phones for the purpose of their security.
